Boosting resilience & performance when it matters most
Science-led consultancy & research for ultimate performance outcomes
I’ve spent my career working to drive resilience and performance for firefighters, military, and people in physically demanding occupations. My background is in improving performance through a research-backed approach to develop recruitment and training programs that prepare your people for the real-life demands of their jobs.
To do this I create evidence-based performance solutions. Evidence-based performance solutions are multi-disciplinary, grounded in achievable changes and tangible benefits. This methodology is my foundation for developing resilience, fitness and strategic decision-making in physically demanding occupations.
Occupational Performance Services
I provide multidisciplinary consultancy and research that improves the performance of physically demanding personnel. This includes a variety of strategies which enhance individual health, optimize the selection of recruits and strengthens worker safety, including:
Development (or review) of legally defensible physical employment standards
Ongoing service fitness and specialist selection
Training needs and occupational and performance task analysis
Injury risk identification and mitigation strategies
Recovery frameworks and overall health optimisation
Reports associated with thermal effects, extreme environments and operational effectiveness
Short-medium term research project management
Organisation of strategic partnerships (equipment, education, technology)
Occupational Performance Case Studies
-
Project: Keeping cool and calm in the heat
This collaborative project developed best-practice cooling strategies to optimise the physical, perceptual and cognitive recovery of firefighters from fire-fighting tasks in the heat.
Project: An evidence-based health evaluation of the Fire and Rescue NSW Tactical Athlete Resilience Program (TARP)
Conducted with a number of sporting partners, this project helped to design and assess the benefit of a health intervention and training program for firefighters to maintain their health, fitness and performance.
Project: Developing bona fide physical employment standards for Fire and Rescue NSW
Aimed at providing FRNSW with a series of sensitive screening tools and legally defensible employment standards to correctly identify recruits capable of safely and successfully performing in the job.
-
Project: Extending the applicability of the ecological dynamics framework to measuring and understanding team coordination and performance in a military setting
This research program developed methods and metrics to quantify collective team behaviours and performance during team-based military tasks, which are performed in fast-paced and complex environments.
Project: Exploring the metabolic, thermal and exercise mode determinants of the heart rate, ventilation and oxygen consumption relationships during exercise
This project evaluated the influence of variations in exercise mode, thermal state, and load carriage on cardiac and ventilatory predictors of metabolic rate.

Project: Optimising physical and psychological performance in the Icelandic Coastguard
Working together across five departments (flight, maritime safety, security surveillance, vessels and special operation units), this project will identify the physical and psychological demands of contemporary ICG occupational tasks, and the factors that underpin coastguard-specific success or performance within these roles.
